Ordered 3rd August 1971 by Maranello Concessionaires Ltd with the order number D/90 (90th Dino ordered) in Rosso Chiaro Ferrari with Nero vinyl and as cost options, electric windows and 6.5” wheels. Delivered to Jersey, the car was UK registered on 1st February 1973 by Sytners and sold to Mr. Jamie Currie of Dumfries in June 1973. The ownership trail is fully documented to the present day. Notable landmarks in the timeline include Tad Holmes of Dorset – this was his first of many Ferraris, who bought the car on 2nd April 1976 with a recorded mileage of 30,000, undertook a full bare metal repaint before selling the car in 1978 for £6500 to Luigi Graziano of Wembley. He kept the car until 1985 before buying it back in 1986! This time he kept the car until selling it to Maranello Concessionaires 6th June 1993. At this point the recorded mileage was 41,000 miles.
Maranello sold the car in June 1993 to the 7th owner, Peter Crawford, the newly retired Managing Director of Unipart, who wanted a restoration project. The subsequent restoration took 4 years and is fully documented with all invoices on file. The mechanical work was carried out by Crawford and Maranello carried out all the bodywork and paint.
Tony Willis, then Sales Director of Maranello commented at the time “… it was a better restoration than most as it was done by the owner for the owner…” Having completed the project Maranello then took the car back in part exchange from Crawford for an F40 and sold the car to Nicholas Pink with 42,154 miles. He commissioned Kevin O’Rouke to inspect the car who summarized the car as follows:
“This car has obviously been restored to a very high standard and it is self-evident that no effort or expense has been spared. The level of anti-corrosion treatment is impressive and any criticism being reserved for nit picking. The drives beautifully having been well set up.”
During Mr Pink’s ownership the car was serviced by Maranello and main agents, MHT who carried out a service at 43,644 miles on February 1999. The car was sold by Maranello Sales to Lord Harris for £62,350 in March 2000. He kept the car until June 2004 when it was sold via Ferrari specialist Mike Wheeler to Mr M Canning. Mileage recorded at 45,741. Following a road test by Mototechnique he spent over £10,000 on the car having the engine and gearbox out and fully refreshed as well as shock absorbers overhauled and generally making good any other works required. The car was sold in 2006 to the penultimate owner who kept the car in storage in central London. The car was serviced regularly even though mileage over the next 13 years was less than 1500 miles! We sold the car in April this year, the new owner had Barkaways inspect the car, a copy of the report is available. The new owner had the car serviced by Barkaways but has realized he prefers his modern Ferrari’s and has asked us to market the car again.
This is a superb example of a stunning model. A comprehensive history file accompanies the car substantiating the incredible amount of work lavished on the car from new, original tool roll and jack. With only 488 UK cars imported this must be considered one of the finest usable examples. As Barkaways summarized in their report:
